A brokered peace agreement involving us, the Saudis and Israel would be a great start.
The Saudis? What in the world do the Saudis have to do with Israel-Palestine? Saudis have money, and that's it. The less significance given to the Saudi regime, which is amongst the most repressive on the planet, the better.
Let the Palestinians and Israelis work out a peace solution between each other other, and screw the rest of the outsiders (including the US). The START should be to encourage the people of Gaza to declare themselves the independent nation of Gaza, grant citizenship to the current residents of Gaza and ONLY the current residents of Gaza, get Gaza to recognize the border between Israel and Gaza is the border between Israel and Gaza (and is not a moving border like the Israel-West Bank border, and worry about the plight of the remaining Palestinian refugees LATER, give the residents some cash compensation in lieu of right of return (which seems less pronounced in Gaza relative to the other Pal diaspora) and then load up the new country with reconstruction projects (including golf course and beach resorts). Voila, 25% of the Palestinian refugee problems solved in a heartbeat.
What amazes me is that current policy of Israel and the US is the exact OPPOSITE of this. Isreal and the US want to prop up Fatah, which has been totally rejected by the people of Gaza, and continue to pursue a ridiculous, unacnievable two state solution. A discontinuos Palestinian nation, bisected by Israel, is a complete fantasy. Israel is never going to allow flights from Gaza to the West Bank because one of them might drop a bomb or two on the way. It's as if Israel and the US continue to pursue the fantasy one nation of Palestine idea (rather than a separate Gaza and West Bank, which makes a HELL OF A LOT MORE sense given the facts on the ground today) in order to prevent the realization of a Palestinian nation.
I say the three state solution is the way to go. |
