though I don't remember your mentioning Thompson. <g>

All I can find is this back in mid-March:

Wonder if ex-senator Fred Thompson (now an actor on Law and Order) is going to jump in here. There's a good precedent for an actor...

If I continue my prognostication attempt, I'd call it currently too close to call between Clinton and Obama on the Democratic side - a lot is going to depend on whether the Dem primaries draw many Independents, which I believe would help Obama.

On the Republican side, I think it will come down to a Thompson/Guiliani head-to-head, with Romney ending up as the VP candidate.

If it is Thompson, I will be forever wanting to trot out a great pair of lines from the English translation of one of the Tintin series. By way of introduction, two of the characters in the series are called Thompson and Thomson - incompetent, identical twin detectives who also dress identically. Thompson said when introducing himself to someone in one of the books:

"I'm Thompson, with a 'p', as in 'psychology.' "

whereas the other (Thomson) said:

"I'm Thomson, without a 'p', as in 'Venezuela.' "

Peter

P.S. If anyone knows what the original French version of this was, I'd love to find out.
