Craig, I believe that you and others on this thread are drawing the same conclusions as I am on Brocade's press release today:

1. They dropped their end user price on non-optics switch to about $100/port cheaper than Ancor's "list price" just to be able to stake the claim, "industry's lowest cost/port". On the one hand, why would Brocade take such a drastic price cut ( does anyone here really buy the "economies of scale/passing the savings onto the customers line? )
and on the other hand they beat Ancor's advertised list price by only $100/port???

Why didn't they go even lower and really make a statement about affordability? I wonder how McData feels now about their much ballyhooed switch at $4,000+ per port? I suspect the price has also come down...

2. No details on their new "FC-L"port. WHEN is the option of FC-L ports available? If I had to guess, I would not be surprised to hear that "samples/beta units" are still another 2-3 months away from being available to customers for testing.

The words "Desperate" and "Smoke and mirrors" comes to mind when I read today's Brocade press release... not to mention the fact that Brocade has stepped up their "Ancor-bashing" campaign in their sales calls ever since MKII was launched. WHY would the self-proclaimed "undeniable established switch fabric leader" Brocade go to such lengths to react to a "dead company" like Ancor? I cannot imagine that Intel sales people go into an account and build their presentation around bashing Cyrix or Advanced Micro Devices. Market leaders
typically take the high ground. Looks like Brocade could be in trouble if they have to resort to actions like this. Just my take.

PS- Has anyone ever seen ANY reputable company/brand ( eg Intel, Compaq, IBM, Proctor and Gamble, Jeep, Starbucks Coffee, etc..) announce to the world that they've cut their prices due to higher sales volumes and economies of scale and are passing the "savings" onto their customers???
