The number one goal for Iraq must be a free and independent nation.

That goal is undermined by the sustained US presence by definition. US forces remain the target of insurgents and outside Islamic freedom fighters or al Qaeda terrorists as they are oft called.

Therefore the main goal cannot be met until the US leaves. Thus removing the reason for Islamists or al Qaeda to be there. Who doubts that Iraqis can self police their own country?

I believe that all US forces should be withdrawn and replaced with a new Iraqi Army and new Iraqi police. The sooner that happens the sooner Iraq can meet that number one stated goal...a free and independent Iraq.
