I have not kept up with the futures, but last night at sweetbay I could get 4 ears of corn for 99 cent. That is close to the price at the local farmers market. Ranier cherries are high. I live near publix HQ right now and a lot of the local grocery stores had local produce back in the day - this was a big agricultural area for a long time - but now so many of the stores have products from ecuador or chile - and it is NUTS to me - I see orange groves dying while new housing developments are built over old blueberry patches that no one moves into and we import all our food. Talk about MISALLOCATION of capital!! (sigh)

All the old farmers my grandpa knew in this area have died off and thier kids instead of continuing in the farm went off to college to be an interior designer in NY. I read that china is putting cardboard in their food and even the fresh stuff they export to us has lots of problems with pesticides and antibiotics - you are what you eat - eat garbage like that and no wonder we are having a medical crisis that is going to have to be dealt with by inflation - PATHETIC our central planners didn't monitor the connections between these systems and how they all affect each other. I think new laws should be put in place for every state and possible every county in the nation to maintain some kind of lands for food growth - but then I live in florida and its easy to grow lots of stuff here - hehe. I own a house and land though - so I can grow my own stuff - but I worry about bart and russ - they dont have their own house or own land so they are probably dependant on someone else for their food - I guess they trust what they get at the supermarket.
