Of course I would much rather eat Sea Bass from a regulated and legal source, and if it was poached as in to take (fish or game) illegally, I don't want any thing to do with it, but how do I know? I guess I could do what you do and just avoid buying anything that is from a source that is labeled threatened, but when I see Sea Bass in the case, I see that the fish is dead already and know that someone is going to eat it.

I have to trust that my local butcher is selling legal product.......although a couple of yrs ago I asked the avail Albertson's butcher about the statis of Sea Bass and he was very ignorant of the issue. But then I found out that he was an assistant to the assistant of the boss.

This is a conversation I am going to have with our best local butcher next chance I get.

And for that matter, I don't know how much of what I buy is black market, and I really don't think there is any easy way for the average consumer to find out short of becoming a detective.
