You apparently have unusually high expenses. Also at least some of those expenses where occurred in the context of you having a higher than average income. Nothing wrong with that, and yes I would hate to try and live on $15k as well (and that's without any dependents, or major medical problems), but its possible for most people to leave a non poverty existence on far less then $70k. And I wasn't even talking about a "non-poverty existence", but rather a very basic existence, which can, for most people, be done on a whole lot less then $50k.

You may have dependents, debts or other liabilities, medical problems, etc. that make your specific situation different, but my point isn't intended to be one that would apply in every specific individual's circumstances.
