"If somebody beats the crap out of you you are not "entitled" to damages. If somebody rips off a bunch of old folks then there are no damages. If somebody does a worthless stock scam then they get to keep the profits." I always figured that the reason for the legal system was to give an alternative to going out and killing someone. Because if there is no other way to redress grievances or settle disputes, that is what is going to happen.
