IMO, there is no comparison. Our families today have a GREAT life by comparison to those of the past. The families in the decades and centuries before us had many times over, a MORE difficult life, to say the least.

We've all heard the stories, of settling new land, clearing lands, growing their own food, milling it themselves, storing it where?, growing the materials with which to make clothing for the entire family, weaving and knitting those materials, making the materials, plus washing the clothing, cooking the food, making do with pine bows or plain dirt floor for a place to sleep, (with no 520 thread count sheets, 10-12 pillows, wool blankets, etc etc)....no inside bathroom...ooops...NO bathrooms, no showers, no windows for the log cabins, no cars, electricity, computers, radios, TVs, blueberry gadgets, and I'm sure you have read enough history over the years to know the rest for each generation.

If anyone is interested, I found some interesting timelines for the World, some of the Countries in the world, and for America over the many centuries since the 1400's....

And BTW, the kids were with their parents most of the time. Working with them in the fields, and doing chores kids could do while adults did more of the harder chores to maintain any life at all.

The kids of yesterday didn't do drugs, didn't think they were deprived if they were homeschooled, or didn't have painted gym sets, or a car for each kid in the house, or that horror or horrors, they didn't have a computer or a TV in their own rooms either.
