These were all perfect words for yesterday, too. We had to put Buddy down, the 15 year old "Big Guy" Black Lab and German Shepard mix....We've been long term babysitting him for years. Our neighbor tells us that while he ran or walked with Buddy, about 40 of the neighbors in about an 8 block radius knew Buddy.... They all loved the big galloute'...
He had a way of looking quizically at you when he wanted to you. He had white whiskers and eye feelers, so the eye feelers moved up with he raised his "eyebrows".....
The FedEx guy, plus the UPS guy, and both the USPO mailtruck guys always stopped to give him either dog biscuits or animal crackers.
Wouldn't you just know it....after weeks of the ministroke, or severe vertigo that he had, he was getting better, but not entirely. So he got tangled in the new plants we put in, broke up about $500-700 worth of them, twisted his rope around the Japanese Maple at least twenty times a day, dug up the area under the trees and in the shade when it was hot, etc etc. It wasn't really his fault...he couldn't see well and we think got easily disoriented....so we had made the decision reluctantly.
BUT yesterday, of all days, he was acting like he felt better. It was extra hard to take him in...but we both realized that it was just a matter of time, and this way he wasn't as bad as he could have been, and not in pain...
