Augustus,
You are right, of course, though I would have used the word "perspective" rather than "levity." However, there is no way in hell that Vick should be allowed to walk out onto a football field until he is fully exonerated, which I seriously doubt is going to happen. The distasteful reality is that the Falcons are going to have to bite the bullet and pay him until this issue is resolved, and that could take years.
Animal cruelty, particularly when it involves dogs, is a very hot button issue for most people. Most everyone who has had a dog can tell you that there is nothing like coming home and being the sole focal point for a creature that greets you with a wagging tail and gives you a look of unadulterated love and loyalty. How many human beings (aside from spouses) give us that look? The dogs in my family has never been "owned." They are adopted.
I cannot even begin to get into the head of anyone who would deliberately mistreat, let alone torture, a human being or an animal. What's next for Vick, stepping on someone's helmet while he is down on the ground? Whoops, I have him confused with his brother. Nice family. |
