do you know where costco gets it gasoline from.? Gas is gas. Regardless of which refinery, pipeline or tanker it comes from, it has to meet certain minimal standards for octane and detergent levels. What differentiates top tier brands from discounters are the additional proprietary additives, such as Techron, etc, which are blended in at their distribution locales, which come between the pipeline and the filling stations. Ethanol, if utilized, is also added at this point. In order for a branded gasoline to achieve top tier status, it must contain additional additives that provide superior cleaning properties. Discount gas and top branded gas may come from the same refinery, it's what's added down stream that makes a difference. Consider it the difference between OK and better than OK..
