American liberals were picketing in front of SAn embassies or corporations that shamelessly traded with South Africa --and that was it. Never was an invasion/military occupation of South Africa contemplated. You were not bombed into abolishing the apartheid regime, were you? It took the end of the Cold War and the demise of the USSR for white SAns to see that they were no longer a US asset against Communism but, rather, a "PR liability"....
As for the reason why white liberals were so vocal against apartheid, it was merely --indeed, cynically-- because the issue struck a chord with the US' own racial dynamics. US WASP elites have always been mindful of any inopportune feedback into the US homeland.... Hence their lack of inhibition when it came to the so-called war against terrorism: for all the US media-military's claims to the contrary, it's basically a war against Muslims and Arabs, that is, against negligible minorities as far as the US is concerned. There are about 2.5 million Arab-Americans and about 17 million Muslim Americans, with most of the latter being African American converts and/or inmates.... That's why, contrary to Western Europe, US JudeoProtestant elites feel free to mess with Muslims/Arabs (think of Abu Ghraib). Contrariwise, that's also why you'll never hear of Pentagon wargames to bomb and occupy a major Latin American country --because that would be a recipe for a SECOND US civil war (between Anglos and Latinos)... or will you?
I keep following the developments/news concerning the US-Mexican border and the politicking about immigration laws --the recent rebuff of the White House proposal to legalize millions of Hispanic illegals.... Here's a scenario I'd like to share with you: the gearing of the Iraqi mess to the growing US obsession about Hispanic immigration. It's likely that, one of these days, white violence against the "wetbacks" will be met with violent reprisals by the latter.... It may even escalate into full-fledged terrorism and that, in turn, will hasten the US pullout from Iraq. I can already hear US Congress(wo)men asking for removing US troops from Iraq and redeploy them where they are most needed --along the Mexican border, to protect the US sanctuary against Hispanic terrorism! Get the picture?
