It seems we have the same problem with "shaheed" as with "martyr" in that there are "good" shaheed as well as "bad" shaheed. Using "shaheed" just for the murderous variety is a distortion of the word. Rather like "jihad," which we tend to use to mean the "bad" jihad although the term correctly encompasses both. Whether we use "martyr" or "shaheed," we would need a modifier to be fully clear.
