Re: First generation Centrino parts are all single core. For your information, Banias parts were the first Centrino generation and all of AMD's parts blow those away on performance and idle power. Dothan was second generation Centrino and were all single core. Yonah was first dual core Centrino, but the third generation. Merom is fourth and Penryn will be fifth.

Get with the program, Pete. CJ made a comment that performance is less important, which is why I brought up Banias, an example of a part that is several generations old and quite a miser on power (easily beating Turion in idle, by the way). I am quite familiar with the Centrino lineage, so your reeducation efforts are not really necessary.

Re: And idle power depend on which chipset is being used on the MB. 965Gs aren't that good at idle either even when paired with a Yonah. Merom is terrible at idle power.

Wrong again, Pete. Merom with 965GM chipset does 8W better in idle than with the 945GM chipset.

Face it. AMD is completely outclassed in mobile competitiveness, which is why they have to price their dual cores so far below Intel's. And while AMD has nothing but an overhauled K8 on their future roadmap, Intel has 45nm mobile cores with high-K and metal gates to reduce leakage and average power draw. Looks like AMD will continue to be outclassed in mobile.
