1) Niaspan has less hepatotoxicity than other niacin formulations. This is a huge advantage. Please see my posting #16 on this thread.

2) Niaspan raises HDL cholesterol up to 32%, while lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides as much as 18% and 30%.

3) By itself it reduces both adverse cardiac events, and reduces overall mortality. See my posting #11 on this thread.

4) It is expected to cost patients about $1 per day. This is about 50% cheaper than statins.

5) It can be safely combined with statins to enhance efficacy.
