Well I could be biased but I think the article is a bit over the top. illiquid is not the same as worthless. the cdo's have cash flows. Just because the hedge fund went under it doesnt mean its assets have become worthless. However it does mean that the industry could come to a grinding halt, which will mean that mortgages may be a lot harder to come by. So I dont want to be a hedgefund owner now. I dont want to be a home builder, and I sure dont want to be someone carrying 2 mortgages thinking im gonna sell my house anytime soon. For the rest of us, maybe its a time to pick up bargains if in fact there will be forced liquidation of hedge fund assets. assuming we are not on margin, have a little cash put away for opportunities, and can weather the storm. So I decided to raise a little cash -took small losses on idt and the tyco split. and raised a little cash.
