When oil goes down, alt energy loses its competitive advantage, and many of these stocks go down even faster. What makes this even tougher to game is that a recession could drive energy demand much lower over the next few years. I'm convinced that alt energy is a big long term winner, but the ethanol/solar/carbon fiber/etc. stocks could suffer in the interim. If you can't think in terms of 5, 10 years+ and can't stomach precipitous declines, then don't play with these stocks. Leave more for me! :)
