GOLDEN, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1997--Atlas Air, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATLS) today announced that it has
entered into a long-term ACMI contract to provide an additional Boeing 747-200 freighter for Lineas Aereas Suramericanas

Atlas first established its relationship with LAS in January, 1997 with a three year contract for one freighter. With respect to the
new contract, Michael Chowdry, Chairman of Atlas, commented, ''Due to its successful business expansion using the first
Atlas freighter, LAS has now added a second airplane and has extended the first contract for an additional 12 months, as well.
This increased commitment shows the confidence of both parties in the South American cargo market. This contract represents
further confirmation of the tremendous growth opportunities for Atlas in the South American marketplace and the successful
outsourcing formula we offer to our customers. Atlas now operates five aircraft in this vital and growing continent.''

As the largest operator of wide body 747 freighters connecting the US mainland with middle and South America, Atlas Air has
