"Seth Grae, the company's president and CEO, told Platts the whole core of an excising 1000-MW reactor would run on thorium in six years time. The first new, thorium based plant would enter service by 2016, Grae said, at a cost of between $1.5 and 3 billion.
Grae said there was interest for Thorium technology also in the UK. He would not name the partners there, but said it involved both the government and the private sector, but not utilities.
In addition, Grae predicted thorium would obtain "significant market shares" in countries that currently does not have nuclear reactors. "I'm an optimist," he said, adding that development of thorium plants in Europe could happen quickly once the first utility starts using it and see the benefits."
