So what's the point? Should we shift the share from individuals and businesses to government? Then hope that government can remove redundancies, force price controls, and lower the cost the way socialism would do it?

You might succeed in reducing the cost of health care, but at a high cost to quality and productivity. Rich or poor, everyone then gets crappy health care. Which, of course, is the way socialists usually end up achieving "class equality."
