Pete,

The most likely outcome would be a plea deal with INTC a-la Japan FTC deal "we deny wrongdoing blah blah but will refrain from doing what we never did in the past" coupled with a some real restraints and some oversight.

The biggie would be if AMD gets to use the evidence like they did from the Japan FTC.

If AMD really proves deliberate harm from INTC illegal practices, THEN look out below. Many many billion $'s. But that is still at least 2-3 years away.

The real positive result this would result in is a real competitive situation in the market place. If such a situation had existed when AMD brought out the K7 and then the K8 against the crappy nutburst, INTC would have gone in deep red. But they did not and remained strong to come back even stronger. So a lot of their current strength comes from the fact that they had really cushy margins protected by their illegal monopoly practices that allows them to continue to push Itanium, and allowed many generation of nutburst w/o a single Q in loss.

Anyone that things AMD is going out of business is day dreaming. They are a real enough competitor with real IP and real factories that even if they stay in the read and have to go back to the markets for billions of $'s, they will and the OEM's will support them and the markets will support them.

I think large OEM's will even go to lengths to buy from AMD regardless of top 2-3 grades being uncompetitive to keep them in the game. No one wants a INTC with 98+% market share.

IF AMD survived and came back with a nut crushing K7 then K8 after the debacle of K62/III, then todays situation is quite rosy.
