I can't understand why we remain allied to the thuggish regime in Israel.

The Israel lobby and the American Jewish Federation [I think that's its name] form a very powerful alliance that has had incredible influence in American government. Under Bush, that relationship has grown stronger for both religious and political reasons and the bonds between Israel and the US are much closer. In fact, Israel's Likud Party in many ways is a mirror image of American neos and the GOP.

Its funny.......you talk to many American Jews and Israel is a sacred lamb that must be preserved. However, you talk to Israeli ex pats and most will say they are surprised how much the US kowtows to Israel's wishes.
