When I put my mind to it, I can make a dynamite French bread. But it take a lot of work! It's done the old fashioned way where you make a fairly wet dough and the turn it out and start kneading it. You fold it in half, take one end and then slap it as hard as you can on a work surface. In principle, you are to do this 800 times but I usually poop out at 200. But it turns out spectacularly good anyway. And this is just with flour, water and yeast.
