john, great stuff to talk about, tobacco stocks and all. christine is, i observe, a popular woman around here. she conveys warmth thru her msgs, as do you. she and i probably have similar life-styles, in that we are vegetarians, and invest in stocks and post here. but i kind of agree with you about this. i probably get too radical for you here, but ... i don't like outlawing "plants". it's absurd. THE most valuable plant on the planet right now is HEMP. i could care less about the pot--i take zero drugs--but the plant is now "owned" by the government. it provides more potential value than any other commodity there is ...

tobacco is going that route, of an outlaw plant. investing in the stocks should be a personal choice. recently, sitting by Walden Pond on a rainy eve, i helped a friend set up some mutual funds ... we talked for hours about it, until he suddenly realized some of the funds may buy tobacco stocks ...he got the heebiejeebies ...if you want a guarantee, i said, do what i do: buy your own stocks ...(he didn't want to so i put him in PBGH SELECT which immediately bombed)

anyway, not to belabor my "word", this goes back to "choose your porn"-- but take responsibility for it. hopefully you'll choose one where no one, not even youself, will get hurt in any way ... but the news about nicotine was out long ago, and i don't think people should get anywhere legally for blaming tobacco cos for their self-inflicted misery ... yet they have, and are. this isn't like getting food poisoning in a Jack-In-The-Box, or killed by the BOPAL CLOUD, a la Union Carbide ... this is a form of regressing to defer to some authority figure, or structure outside yourself --the tobacco co, the gov't--who really doesn't know anything you don't know, and letting it take up the slack you let out yourself, inch by inch, over years ...in this case, the slack being your health.
