LIAR. The Cold War was based on packs of lies too. Both countries military authoritarian leaders used the supposed threat of nuclear holocaust to scare the be-Jesus out of people making lemmings and cows out of them. When Glasnost finally happened, we found out they weren't really a threat to us at all. And vice versa. So all the peacemakers were right, as were the anti-nuclear forces.

In actuality, the Soviet Union may not have even had ICBM's capable of reaching us accurately. They tried to, but their technology was often so poor it is doubtful most of the Cold War hysteria was even necessary. By the 70's they were also broke and had no more money to wage any kind of war with us.

On the US side, the rightwing seized on Cold War hysteria to try and rip up our Constitution and install a quasi Fascist state. Only the honesty of Eisenhower and then Kennedy stopped them. Joe McCarthy was a huge criminal traitor. He was a fascist. And those who made hundreds of billions building nuclear bombs and promoting wars in Vietnam and Korea should be seen for what they are, blood money billionaires. Now we see the same thing in Iraq with the crooks at Halliburton. In actuality, ever war we've had since WWII could have been avoided, and we'd have been better off not fighting. The Soviet Union did need to be stood up to, but waging wars in Vietnam etc had nothing to do with that. Castro was also no real threat to us once Kennedy stood him down. In fact many of our biggest enemies were right here at home, people like McCarthy. The rightwing military-industrial war mongering Fascists.
