I'm not saying Israel didn't get some provocation. Which Israel over-reacted to, as Hizbollah expected. Game to Hizbollah. Losers? Israel, Lebanon and the United States, Israel's "sponsor".

The only reason Hezbollah "won" to some people is because of the exaggeration of what Israel did and simply ignoring what Hezbollah did. Not just in provoking Israel by taking the hostages. No, that really was the least of it. They provoked Israel by the how they turned southern Lebanon into an armed camp. By where they placed their weaponry. By where they placed their fighters. By how they fired their rockets into Israel.

It wasn't just "some" provocation. It was a lot of provocation. True, I think Israel should have gone to the UN before they responded militarily. Not that the UN would have done very much. But they could have gotten the moral high ground first, exposed the buildup, demanded it be undone.

However, the fact remains that no country can tolerate the kind of provocation that Hezbollah challenged Israel with without responding. And before you talk about how many people were killed by Israel in Lebanon, compare it to how many people were just killed in the Palestinean civil war. And compare that to how many people have been killed by Israel since the 2cnd Intifida began. I think you'll find that Israel has been relatively restrained.
