I wish this thread would revive. One focussed precisely on the dollar would be worth reading.

My own warped view of the euro is that I hope it goes a lot higher so that several million fewer Americans, especially young ones, will be able to go to Paris. Then I will take my euro travelers checks and go. A couple of years ago I swore I would never go back to the Louvre, because I had got in in order to see some particular landscape paintings, and was caught in a maelstrom of tourists, mainly American, and forced down a hallway and past the Mona Lisa, and I DID NOT WANT to see the Mona Lisa. You go into Notre Dame de Paris and wou get carried along by swarms of teenagers talking on the cell phones or listening to I-Pods. You walk up Montmartre and you have to clamber over young bodies lounging all over the steps, breathe their cigarette smoke, and hear their music. Those people need to be back home sitting around in a soda shop where they belong.
