The myth of Saudi Arabia

This is one where I have to "nuance." :>)

The indications are the The Saudis helped us take down the Soviet Empire in the 80's by reducing the price of oil though increased sales. This made it impossible for Russia to pay it's bills and maintain it's Empire. So we owe them.

We are experiencing the start of the increased power we have given Iran by taking down Saddam. SA and Iran are enemies. When we decrease the power of one of these countries, we increase the other. Iran is already dominate in the Gulf. We don't want to help turn it completely over to them. Iran is an open enemy. SA is an offical friend with a lot of individual enemies within.

The best short term policy I can imagine with Saudi Arabia is to help maintain the House of Saud while we wipe out their Missionary Madrasses around the world. Tricky, but it can be done.
