Mephisto:
Polo, (Svengaardt's Twisted Dictionary, "Olop"), is a sport which developed during the Middle Ages. Played by Royalty, it involved wooden mallets smashing the heads of cute little foxes.
Over the centuries, Polo deteriorated from its original bloodthirsty sport to something more tame with a wooden ball, and where the only things mamimed and killed were horses, the players and an occassional spectator. This was deemed more humane by the sensitized sporting crowd.
Sitting on a horse made it more sporting for the fox (as it gave, theoretically, the fox more of a fighting chance). Later, as too many foxes got away, the English changed the rules and introduced dogs. This became known as a "Fox Hunt". And since no human was smashing in the skull of a terrorized fox, but insteads well-trained, blood-crazed hounds ripped the hapless creature to shreds. This was considered more humane.
