Capt. Kathryn Navin, a lawyer who briefs Marines in Iraq before they go into combat, testified that it is permissible to shoot and kill people fleeing a roadside bomb attack even if they are unarmed and no proof exists that they were involved in the attack.

But, Navin added, it is not necessarily permissible to kill someone just for pointing a gun at you.

The above is clear evidence that the decline in America's fighting and defense capability is well underway.

Either the swing of this pendulum gets reversed soon or the loss of effective protection mechanisms accelerates even faster.

I have dwindling confidence that America can simultaneously survive:

1. Corrupt Politicians at national level
2. A seriously under-manned military
3. Idiotic rules of combat that disrupt battlefield engagements and undermine our soldiers' morale
4. An underfunded social security system just as those who fed the system are beginning to retire
5. Unprotected borders and hordes of problem immigrants

Proposed Solutions:
1. Execute corrupt politicians who use their position for personal gain illegally.
2. Get the draft going.
3. Take JAG out of the field and put JAG back in their legal offices. Accept that the mission of our military is to kill and destroy our enemies and collateral damage is inevitable.
4. Straighten out Social Security even at the detriment of other social programs.
5. Secure our borders and eliminate the motivation of the illegals. Exact extreme financial retribution from those who employ illegals.

These are sharp proposals, I know. But they are needed to reverse the decline.
Our failure to resolve these issues is a glaring admission of self-centeredness including an unwillingness to give, even a little bit, to future generations of Americans.

Excellence is not a dream. It has always been an achieveable goal in America. We need to reestablish excellence as a national standard.
