As far as I know, there is no open civil war in the US. And why our US soldiers should be fighting to hold the Iraq together, when it is lack of an Iraqi political solution that is now failing to keep the county from falling apart, is the reason I think a vacation at this time is ridiculous.

It is not (imo) imperative for the US that the Iraqi's not have a civil war. It probably won't be that bad for us. It will, however, be very bad for the remaining Iraqis. So that's why I think it is incredibly stupid for them to vacation now.

I agree Bush bears responsibility- but Bush being "on the job" so to speak, is what started this mess, and he's not going to fix it. That's another reason Bush and congress have very little, at this point, to say about stability in Iraq. We have tossed the grenade in their court- while it may not be "fair", they are the only ones who can fix this, and going on vacation in the midst of crisis isn't a very good sign. imo, of course
