Basically, it's this: If I can't come up with an argument for why my team will be ahead in the future, I'll just say it is impossible to know, and therefore your argument for why your team will be ahead is invalid. A variation of the: Well, they are ALL corrupt! argument used when one's favorite politician is caught, also employed to excuse Hector's $16M compensation last year by the fans.
