My comment is more about the distance between "liberal" meaning social democrat, and "liberal" in the sense that Ludwig von Mises, David Ricardo, Thomas Jefferson, or John Locke might have used the term.

Oh. I had no idea that classical liberals had anything to do with this discussion. I thought you were comparing current liberals and progressives with old progressives. I don't see the new progressives and the old progressives as having much in common, which is why I asked.
