IMO belief in gold, "Austrian Economics" etc. is a belief that the world does not change; that today's economy is essentially the same as that in the late 19th century or early 20th century. But this flies in the face of belief in TEOTWAKI etc. Seems to me there are some contradictions here. It's not true either that the world is totally different today. It evolves slowly and the student of economics needs to keep on top of what has changed and what hasn't.
