A person who refuses to engage in the hard core market place negotiating techniques in the Middle East would be considered a pitiable retard by the seller. I agreed to the stated price for a gold necklace once and the seller put his arm around me and told me he was going to give me a thirty percent discount for some hyped up reason. It didn't feel like a compliment. However, even in the ME, a person using 'Market Place' language and negotiation might be arrested in a formal setting for behaving the same way. There are, however, hard core formal negotiation techniques that are effective in working things out in the diplomatic arena ... seeking compromise is an inappropriate thing to focus on if you expect buy in.
