The key to the Medicare Advantage plan is that it uses the HMOs and PPOs model. The fact that most include Part D (drugs) is, IMO, a marketing event. The plans carries all the deductibles, that Medicare A and B have and uses the lower premiums that HMOs and PPOs allow.

The Medicare SUPPLEMENT plans are basically the original Medicare A and B plans with varying degrees of deductibility. The Supplemental "F" plan is, according to those I asked, the most popular, because it essentially eliminates all deductibles.

However, Supplemental Plan F is not free. You must carry Medicare B (this is the premium deducted from the SS check), in order to enroll in Plan F that has a starting premium of approximately $!45.00 monthly.

If one can afford the two premiums: $100 for Medicare plus $145 for the Supplemental plan, it makes sense to enroll in the basic Medicare D (drugs) plan which amounts to $10-15.
