Another Medicare wrinkle that is not complicated but is obscure and annoying is the means-testing of Part B. You have to really dig to find out that the means test is not Adjusted Gross Income but Modified Adjusted Gross Income computed on two (I think) year old income. I guess Medicare will import info from the IRS to figure out who needs to pay what. That's not clear to me. I had to really dig to find out they use MAGI instead of AGI.

Sometimes it seems like they go out of their way to make a mess.
