Aware Announces Commercial Availability of the X200
ADSL Access Router at Networld+Interop '97

First DMT-based ADSL Access Router Provides 50 Times the Performance of ISDN-based Routers

ATLANTA, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- This week at Networld+Interop '97, Aware, Inc. (Nasdaq:AWRE), a leading developer of ADSL broadband products designed to increase the speed of data communications over existing copper telephone networks, will introduce the X200 DMT-based ADSL Access Router. Fifty times faster than ISDN-based routers, the X200 is the industry's first commercially available ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) access router for customer premise equipment to incorporate discrete multitone (DMT) modulation.

Using the Aware/Analog Devices AD20msp910 chipset, the X200 provides a flexible customer premise solution for DSLAM (digital subscriber loop access multiplexer), DLC (digital loop carrier) and central office telecommunications equipment providers. The AD20msp910 chipset is the only commercially available DMT chipset that meets the requirements of ANSI T1.413. For service providers, the X200 represents the fastest, most cost-effective way to bring the advantages of DMT-based ADSL into their service networks.

An ultra-high-speed router capable of delivering data at speeds of more than 8 Mbps downstream and 768 kbps upstream, the X200 features rate adaptivity, IP routing, SNMP management, and supports multiple users on an Ethernet LAN. Built-in routing functionality provides cost-effective access to private LANs by eliminating the need for customers to purchase additional routers.
Although initially targeted at frame-based architectures, the X200 is designed to support cells, and will do so through a software upgrade by year-end. Ideal for telecommunications equipment using
the AD20msp910 today, the X200 will be interoperable with all standard-compliant DMT equipment solutions in the future through Aware's committed interoperability efforts.

''Providing 50 times the performance of ISDN-based remote access equipment, the X200 is the first ANSI-compliant ADSL access router,'' noted Jim Bender, president and chief executive officer of Aware.

The X200 ADSL Access Router features a unique design and a small footprint (2.7''w x 6.5''h x 7.5''l). Interface connections include an RJ45 for Ethernet connectivity, an RJ-11 for ADSL data, and an RS-232 providing a console interface. In addition, the X200 comes equipped with an internal POTS splitter that allows the remote user to connect a telephone to the access router, enabling simultaneous voice and data transmissions.

Designed to meet the needs of DSLAM, DLC and CO equipment manufacturers as well as service providers, Aware's X200 DMT-based router is available for a U.S. list price of $1,495. OEM pricing is provided for volume quantities.
