Both parties take part in the transaction because they believe they will benefit. That doesn't mean there is no risk. Sometimes people make bad choices. OTOH if economic and financial decisions are made by something other than the free market there is no need for both parties to have any reason to believe they will benefit. Undesirable choices can simply be forced on people.
