Very interesting, Kenneth...

Even more interesting is the 2005 study on bridges.

"In a 2005 study of the nation’s infrastructure, the American Society of Civil Engineers found that about 26 percent of Washington’s 3,000 bridges are either structurally deficient or obsolete."

And it appears that Washington has quite a history of bridge collapses...

"The old Tacoma Narrows Bridge - “Galloping Gertie” as it came to be called - fell into Puget Sound during a 1940 windstorm.

Fifty years later, a section of the Interstate 90 Mercer Island floating bridge sank to the bottom of Lake Washington during stormy weather.

Apparently there are 2 bridges that are REALLY bad:

"Of the state’s bridges, Kapur said two - the viaduct and the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge, which crosses Lake Washington as part of state Route 520 - cause him the most concern."

Even more odd is the FACT that this report has been there since 2005 and yet the Democrat Governor (Chris Gregoire elected in 2004) has done absolutely NOTHING until now. Why didn't she get these dangerous bridges repaired in 2005 or 2006? Talk about CYA. :)
