I don't see failing to graduate as that big an issue these days, with the relative success of 'No child left behind' policies. What is an issue is success as a nation of learners, which we'ns aint.

That there's 'cause we've become a nation of fat consumers who produce nothing the rest of the world wants and are denying it is any sort of problem, while we've sunk to 29th in math and sciences achievement. As the history of the world has demonstrated repeatedly, whoever comes up with the better technology defeats the previous title holder. We have the best techno but we wont in future generations because we've wasted our resources.

Our system works in complex and risky situations when we collaborate and various view points are given respect; so that we can come up with solutions that are in the best interests of our country. That's called being united in our stand. We are not. Stupid and corrupt extremists have sabotaged the system so thoroughly that we are bound to fail in drawn out polarizing conflicts.

We're a people riding on laurels, comfortable with the status quo of superpowerdom. That star is beginning to fade.
