As anyone unfortunate enough to have required medical care in Britain is painfully aware, the country has succumbed to socialized medicine, placing bureaucrats in charge of who gets treated and when. Asserts Dr. Meldrum: We are saying, "This patient has a hyper-appetite problem" rather than, "They are just greedy." People like to put fancy labels that suggest things are a medical problem. But [obesity] is not just a problem for GPs, it is societal. We are in danger of over-medicalizing. He has a point. But if Moore is getting treatment for his weight problem, he ought to be thankful he lives in a country where a free market provides whatever medical care people are willing to pay for.
