After reading Mary's post, I went looking for stories about missing diaries and Tillman's anti-war sentiment. It seems the Dems are really working hard to push a dark conspiracy kind of coverup and I came across some fairly strange hypotheses, one of which was he was killed because he was an outspoken atheist and the government is religious. Another said he was planning to meet with Noam Chomski and had grown very anti-war and that's why his diaries are missing. These missing diaries are fitting neatly into any of these imaginative scenarios since what they contained is a question mark.

I have a hard time with conspiracies anyway, but this one is getting more and more elaborate and weird, imo. The Washington Post did a detailed chronology of the events leading up to Tillman's death, and it sounds far more likely that this was the result of mishaps, some poor leadership decisions, a lot of confusion, and a command that then tried to cover it up because of the humiliation of shooting their own poster boy.

I am always the slowest person around to go with extreme scenarios because I think they are so often unlikely and do so much damage. I admit that some of the things I have learned about this admin. make me not quite as sure of anything anymore, but execution seems kind of over the top and must be terribly painful for the family. It is so odd that no one ever seems to learn that truth really does out eventually, and the cover up is so much worse when it is revealed.
