Speaking of infrastructure- my mom in law took the coastal starlight down to Southern Cal and she was telling me how much worse the train is now, than when she took it 8 years ago. On her way home the train was 4 1/2 hours late. Part of the reason is that freight has priority, and they had to continually pull over for freight. My mom-in-law met several train buffs on the rails- and they were telling her that congress wanted to eliminate sleepers and dining cars. Sounds to me we either need to decide if we want a rail system for passengers- in which case the trains need to run on time, and we need to improve the service- or we don't want one, and we scrap it. Running a crappy service just doens't make a lot of sense to me. For those of you interested in rail- apparently you can express your support for it here: narprail.org Never heard of them, but mom-in-law got on earful from rail enthusiasts on the train.
