It is troubling to me whenever words like "bad" are used on a topic like this. I may not believe in spanking, which I happen to think is unnecessary and a second best way to discipline, but I don't believe it makes someone a bad parent, nor am I ready to make it a law that you can't spank, but I would certainly offer reasons why it is preferable not to use physical force on children.

On the other hand. isn't the same kind of value/moral judgment and governmental control being used in the issues of gay childrearing? I have heard from the right how a child needs two parents- a man and a woman- because it is "best". Never mind that children raised by gays are turning out fine in the research thus far. Or we hear how marriage has always been between a man and a woman, that this is what is natural and gay marriage isn't. Well, breastmilk is natural also, and formula isn't.
It seems we all pick and choose what we want to allow based on our own personal belief systems, and how far we want the government to go in getting us what we want.
