I taught seniors one year. I asked them to write up their meals for one week, as an adjunct to Supersize Me. Most of them ate almost no fruits and vegetables- some (probably 1/5th) ate none. Most of them started the day with a soda or coffee (often a super sweet Starbucks coffee). They ate candy constantly. I'd say 1/4 of them were obese, or close to obese.

One girl, the top student, was trim and still ate a lunch her mother packed every day. She was the only one who consistently ate a home cooked meal. Now granted, I was given the seniors who did not want to take composition- so these were the kids at the lower end of the grade scale, if you get my drift. But they weren't stupid, just ignorant and unmotivated- and very poorly nourished. I think a lot of our behavior problems in school could be solved if the kids just ate better.
