Well you could say that.

I say there is a happy medium.

I don't want the law interfering with what parents do in the home- when it doesn't rise to the level of child abuse, but on the other hand, children are pretty critical to the working for our country, since they represent our hopes for the future. Those things we can agree on for the most part- curbing emerging public health problems for example- make sense to me.

As with most things, it's a question of balance.

But yes, I agree it's easy to use "the children"- for anything, on the left or the right (it's not just the socialists). I've seen both sides use them- and mom, and apple pie too. Not sure you throw out doing the best you can for children just because the two extremes tend to use them for their extremist agendas.
