And that's why we have a problem.
On the other hand, fruits and veggies can be delicious, but they need to be fresh and high quality in order to be so. My kids love raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, peaches, nectarines, fresh baby lettuce, crispy fresh carrots, heirloom tomatoes, peas right out of the pod- but they don't like nasty old wilted veggies, or the kinds of veggies you sometimes get at the supermarket - like the tomatoes that taste like styrofoam. My girls prefer their baby lettuce without salad dressing because they love the taste so much.
Those bags of chips and twinkies will keep a long time and still taste...the same (I hesitate to say good)- your veggies and fresh meats need to be eaten right away. For taste delight it's tough to beat a really sweet fresh raspberry, or a juicy ripe mango (and you're in the Islands, so you get those fantastic pineapples we never see over on the mainland)- but to eat these foods is expensive, and you have to go shopping often. So I don't think it's just a question of taste- good for you foods can taste fabulous, but it's hard to get them at that level of quality, and you have to handle them differently than processed foods. |
