Gary - Your moving to fast

all your long distance is fiber, that is why it sounds so good...remember the old long distance days with copper, they sucked............in my opinion as each day passes we are moving
towards fiber optic and AWAY from copper.........the world wide wait will soon be history..................

All this fiber your hearing about is part of the backbone. Fiber to the curb FTTC is a longs ways off for the masses.

They replace copper with fiber at a rate of 7% per year. In real world conditions this equals 4% per year as new copper customers are coming
on line each day. This is the U.S.

World wide there are approx. 700 million copper twisted pair leading into homes and businesses, by 2001 there will be 900 million.

The world wide wait will be history because of DSL technologies and technologies like LMDS.

If your waiting for FTTC you'll get gray waiting.

FFTN Fiber to the Neighborhood, with VDSL carried the last mile by HFC will be the winner in the near term 5 - 10 years.

Though investments in Fiber Co.s should be great, FTTC will take
20 - 40 years.
